The Situation
One of the 30kW electric motors that runs the pump on the hydraulic powerpack in a chicken-processing factory, failed on New Year’s Day. The motor operates within a section of the factory responsible for the bird infeed into the processing site, and without it, through-put is reduced to 80%.
The Solution
Given that it was a national Bank Holiday, the emergency call-out number for the factory’s local HAYLEY DEXIS branch in Scunthorpe, was dialled. The team swiftly answered the call and immediately understood the urgency of the requirement. A replacement unit was in-stock at HAYLEY DEXIS | Drives, the specialist facility in Dudley, West Midlands, and it was arranged for the motor to be sent on a same-day courier service. Within four hours of the breakdown being reported, the new motor had arrived at the Lincolnshire-based factory and installation had begun.
"THE EMERGENCY SERVICE PROVIDED BY HAYLEY DEXIS PREVENTED REVENUE OF £72,000 FROM BEING LOST."
The Result
It is estimated that the out-of-hours service provided by HAYLEY DEXIS reduced the customer’s potential downtime by twelve hours. As a result, £72,000 worth of revenue was saved. This figure was calculated by using a customer agreed rate of £100/min of lost production for the 20% reduction caused by the breakdown. The new electric motor was a like-for-like substitute for the 30kW failed unit. This made it far easier for engineers to quickly increase production back to 100%, once the motor had reached them.
