HAYLEY DEXIS And Weg Set Cement Plant On Course To Achieve £107,323 In Energy Cost-Savings Over Next Five Years – CS214

THE SITUATION

Due to the close working relationship they enjoy with the customer, the team at the local HAYLEY DEXIS branch were aware of two inefficient electric motors operating at the customer’s cement plant. After having discussions with the HAYLEY DEXIS team, the Engineering Manager at the cement plant agreed to a joint site visit where HAYLEY DEXIS would bring along representatives from WEG. The objective of the visit was to carry out an Energy Performance Analysis which would demonstrate the benefits of modern, energy efficient electric motors.

THE SOLUTION

During the site visit, a 250kW 2-pole motor and a 315kW 2-pole unit were identified as the most inefficient motors. These units had a far higher total cost of ownership than a modern, more energy efficient alternative. The proposed two motors from WEG were accepted at an investment cost of £25,500 for the customer, and placed on order via HAYLEY DEXIS.

"UPGRADING THE TWO MOTORS IS SET TO SAVE £132,823.50 IN ENERGY COSTS ACROSS FIVE YEARS."

THE RESULT

Maintaining the same running time as the current motors, the energy saving enabled by the new WEG motors is calculated at 106,258.8 kWh per year. Based on a pence per kWh provided by the site of £0.25, this translates to a forecasted annual cost-saving of £26,564.70. Extrapolated over a five year period, upgrading the two motor assets is set to save a significant £132,823.50 in energy costs. A payback period on the initial investment will be secured in the first year. As part of the analysis carried-out by WEG and HAYLEY DEXIS, a CO2e reduction of 20.5 tonnes per year has also been forecast.
