The Situation
A wood panel manufacturer was experiencing performance and reliability issues with their trommel screens, used to separate materials at the beginning of the process. As a trusted supply partner, HAYLEY DEXIS was contacted for assistance in alleviating the problems.
The Solution
HAYLEY DEXIS worked with on-site engineers to quickly identify that the problem was rooted in the performance of the FAG 23280 spherical roller bearings, of which there were eight. An expert from Schaeffler, a longstanding strategic supply partner of HAYLEY DEXIS, was invited on-site. Over the course of two days, the bearings within the affected applications were subjected to a thorough inspection. During the inspection, it was noted that a lubrication issue was present, despite there only being slight damage to the bearings at the time. This meant that the bearings did not have to be removed following the process.

The Result
The bearing inspection carried-out by the Schaeffler engineer helped to define the cause of the problem that was affecting the bearings within the trommel screens. No bearings had to be replaced on this occasion, saving the customer money in sourcing replacement units. Best practice relating to the lubricant product used, and how this is applied and managed was demonstrated following the bearing inspection. This has meant that the persistent problems should now recur. The local HAYLEY DEXIS branch and the customer now have a supply agreement in place for the grease products being used within the spherical roller bearings, and keep a constant stock to ensure the site has same-day access.
