The Situation
A production facility supplying frozen baked goods to retailers across the UK was using technical white oil on their spiral blast freezer chain. The Engineering Supervisor working on site had raised a few issues with the current lubricant being washed off the main chain drive during cleandown cycles, risking it seizing up and causing a major breakdown.
The Solution
After consulting the team at the “local HAYLEY DEXIS branch in Worcester, who sought the technical expertise of the in-house lubricant specialists, an alternative was recommended. PURITY™ FG Synthetic Fluid 46 from Petro-Canada Lubricants was identified as the solution, and an order was placed for this product to be trialled by the customer. Petro-Canada’s PURITY™ FG Hydraulic Fluids are advanced food grade lubricants formulated to deliver long lasting protection. They have outstanding resistance to oxidative breakdown and provide excellent protection from wear and protection in even the most challenging food processing applications.
"WE WOULD RECOMMEND PURITY FG SYNTHETIC FLUID 46 TO OTHERS WITH SIMILAR APPLICATIONS."
The Result
The trial period was a success and an order has been placed for the new fluid with HAYLEY DEXIS. After the trial, the Engineering Supervisor noted that the PURITY™ FG product remained on the chain
drive after each cleaning cycle. This has reduced the risk of the chain freezing in the -25oC operating temperatures, and causing a catastrophic breakdown as a result. The reduction in lubricant consumption will also cut costs by around £3,000 per year. Less link seizing on the chain will also extend the service life of the drive train components, resulting in less intervention from the maintenance team.
