THE SITUATION
Staff working at a dairy product factory in North Yorkshire were facing issues with using their disorganised on-site stores. It was difficult to quickly locate and retrieve items, and this was causing time to be wasted and even delays in the factory fulfilling its orders. Inventory was not being tracked, and this was leading to stockout scenarios being common place, as well as overstocking of certain items.
THE SOLUTION
The customer’s point of contact at HAYLEY DEXIS was invited on-site to examine the current stores. It was immediately clear that the inventory needed a complete overhaul, before being reorganised and visibility of the items currently in-stock improved. HAYLEY DEXIS proposed a project that would take two members of the in-house stores management team, four weeks to compete. The project would involve removing outdated or incorrect labels, identifying and categorising all inventory items, before rationalising this with the customer and organising the stores in a more intuitive and user-friendly way. HAYLEY DEXIS’ own inventory management system was also introduced, using barcodes, hand-held scanners and a digital platform to enable the customer have a real-time view of its inventory items at all times.
"THE ON-SITE STORES ARE NOW SIGNIFICANTLY EASIER TO NAVIGATE"
THE RESULT
The on-site stores are now significantly easier to navigate, with product retrieval now a much faster task to accurately carry-out for staff. This has helped to improve both operational efficiency and productivity. The HAYLEY DEXIS stores management software is now enabling a real-time analysis of the current inventory with stockout scenarios now far less frequent as a result. Cost-savings are also being achieved as unnecessary over-ordering is now a thing of the past.
