
The Situation
A multi-site UK supplier of concrete products had secured a contract to supply goods to the companies involved in the building of the High Speed 2 railway. Two new production plants were due to be commissioned to satisfy the specialist requirements of the project, which had already been designed and built abroad. On-site engineers were concerned about the quality of components and were looking to standardise with quality parts from reputable manufacturers, before the plants went live.
The Solution
As a trusted supply partner and service provider, the team from HAYLEY DEXIS’ Birmingham branch was invited to visit the sites to evaluate requirements for critical spares, and suggest replacements for the components that were raising concerns. There was a window of five months to identify, provide costs, order, and deliver the final agreed list. Two 40ft shipping containers were also ordered and needed racking to be installed in order to act as point-of-use spares storage facilities. The team worked with a selection of HAYLEY DEXIS’ globally-renowned OEM supply partners to create a comprehensive list of recommended products which included electric motors, bearings, belts and pulleys, among other mechanical components.

The Result
The sites involved now have a solid and reliable base from which to work from, with the commissioned plants benefitting from upgraded mechanical components and a greatly improved access to spares. Any downtime in production is something that the customer is incredibly keen to minimise as their contract with the HS2 project declares that fines will be issued for any delays in delivering the proposed 820,000m3 of specialist concrete. With critical spares now available immediately to engineers on-site, the time spent sourcing replacement components needed has been drastically reduced.
