The Situation
The customer was looking into sitewide changes that they could feasibly make in order to reduce energy consumption. They had earmarked a Flender Cavex worm and wheel drive on a screen that had been in service for 20+ years, for a potential upgrade. The set-up was no longer the most suitable solution for the application, and was highly inefficient.
The Solution
A technical specialist from HAYLEY DEXIS | Drives attended site to make the required calculations and to recommend an appropriate solution. The solution offered and delivered was a flange-mounted, right-angled planetary gearbox fitted with an IEC motor. The motor selected was classified IE3, providing a hugely improved energy efficiency rating to the current unit. To enable a rapid turnaround, a special torque arm was designed and fabricated to fit exactly with the new standard screen being produced simultaneously by the screen manufacturer.
"THE CUSTOMER IS NOW BENEFITTING FROM A UNIT THAT IS AROUND 25% MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT."
The Result
Downtime was kept to a minimum during the work, by providing a customised drop in solution that worked seamlessly with the new screen. This prevented the customer from experiencing any more operational disruption than necessary. The customer is now benefiting from a unit that is around 25% more energy efficient than the previous motor, saving a significant amount in running costs. Maintenance procedures, especially repairs are now easier and less expensive with replacement parts available off-the-shelf.
