THE SITUATION
A car manufacturer approached HAYLEY DEXIS with a critical issue. Its engineering team had identified that the seal kits currently in use were over-spec’d and expensive. The seals contained within were also prone to failure, causing downtime and contributing to spiralling maintenance spend. The customer asked HAYLEY DEXIS to assess and procure a more cost-effective and reliable sealing solution – not simply to supply parts, but to deliver true value, long-term reliability, and lower total cost of ownership.
THE SOLUTION
HAYLEY DEXIS applied its engineering expertise, specialist seal knowledge and procurement strength to deliver a tailored solution. After the local branch team and the dedicated seals personnel had reviewed the customers’ needs, HAYLEY DEXIS proposed a more optimised seal design: a high-quality, lower-cost alternative, matching performance but removing unnecessary over-specification. This alternative was supplied from a reputable, authorised seals brand (leveraging HAYLEY DEXIS’ strong authorised-distributor relationships). HAYLEY DEXIS ensured the solution was fully compatible with OEM requirements.

THE RESULT
The new kit has been adopted at one of the manufacturer’s sites in the North East of England. Thanks to the improved specification of the products within the kit, an £8,500 cost-saving has been made immediately on the cost price of the previous kit. Factoring in the downtime previously caused by premature seal failure, the site will also benefit from less revenue lost to breakdowns. The plan is now to roll-out the new seals kits to the 180 other manufacturer’s sites around the UK, meaning a significant cost-saving and downtime reduction could be achieved.
