The Situation
The Engineering Manager at an animal feed mill in the East of England, had been made aware that non-food-grade greases were being used on site. This posed a problem as there was potential contact between lubricants and the grain used as food for poultry farms across the country. This meant that hazardous materials had an opportunity to get into the food chain.
The Solution
ROCOL® were drafted-in by the customer’s local HAYLEY DEXIS branch. A full site survey was conducted, which included recommendations being made on products, quantities, and relubrication frequencies. The list included both food grade and food safe alternatives to the customer’s current lubricant stock. Products such as FOODLUBE® Premier 1 and FOODLUBE® Chain Spray were accepted as alternatives on the premise that they would not only boost compliance with food safety standards, but also improve the reliability of mechanical components and reduce maintenance costs over their life cycles.
"THE ROCOL® PRODUCTS HAVE EXTENDED THE SERVICE LIFE OF COMPONENTS USED AT THE FACILITY."
The Result
By switching to a food safe lubricant, the risk of contamination of the final animal feed product, has been eliminated. The ROCOL® products have extended the service life of components such as transmission chain used at the facility, both saving the customer money and reducing the threat of unplanned operational downtime. The customer has been incredibly pleased with the performance of the ROCOL® products. So much so that the Engineering Manager has stated that FOODLUBE® chain spray will be used across the facility moving forwards.
