The Situation
A major quarry in the Midlands was experiencing problems with their hydraulic hoses. Service lives of hoses on-site were shorter than expected, with bursts and failures resulting in production losses and costly downtime. Hose replacement was currently being carried-out by a mobile service provider, which was convenient but this also came with a premium price tag.
The Solution
The customers’ local HAYLEY DEXIS branch got the call, and immediately contacted the technical product specialists within HAYLEY DEXIS | fluid power. The team had enjoyed previous success with converting mobile service users to self-assembly units at quarries, and were keen to replicate that with this customer. It was swiftly arranged for an engineer to attend the quarry with Gates® self-assembly equipment. A demonstration on the use of the crimping machine was delivered to the onsite engineers, followed by a training session for eight engineers, led by a certified trainer. The machine met the overwhelming approval of the Lead Engineer, and was left for the team to use for replacement hoses from then onwards.
"THE GATES® CRIMPING MACHING AND TRAINING SESIONS HAVE EMPOWERED ON-SITE ENGINEERS."
The Result
The Gates® crimping machine has empowered on-site engineers to create their own replacement hoses, reducing the premium costs previously paid to the mobile repair provider. This has reduced the overall costs associated with maintenance and repair at the quarry. Having the self-assembly facility onsite has also enabled maintenance to be planned into a schedule, reducing the risk of unplanned downtime having a knock-on effect on production and revenue. The Gates® -certified training delivered by the HAYLEY DEXIS | fluid power specialist has ensured that all self-assembled hoses are guaranteed leak-free and also safe for use before installation. A healthy stock of replacement hoses is now also held by the local HAYLEY DEXIS branch.
