Specialist Roller Screw Sourcing Safeguards Production Continuity

The Situation

A major end user in the food packaging industry faced a significant operational risk when a specialised planetary roller screw assembly became unavailable. As a critical spare within a key production system, the inability to source a direct replacement posed the risk of extended downtime and disruption should the existing component fail.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, the King’s Lynn team engaged WMH to provide technical support and identify a suitable replacement that would maintain operational continuity.

The Solution

WMH engineers conducted a site visit alongside Hayley Group representatives to assess the application and inspect the failed assembly. The defective planetary roller screw was removed from the machine, with comprehensive dimensional measurements and technical analysis carried out on-site before the unit was returned to WMH’s Tamworth facility for further verification.

Following detailed validation, WMH successfully identified and sourced a technically suitable replacement assembly. Although the lead time was comparable to the original OEM offering, the alternative solution delivered a substantial cost saving while meeting the required performance and application specifications.

The Result

By sourcing a cost-effective replacement for a critical mechanical assembly, WMH helped mitigate the customer’s operational risk and safeguarded production continuity. The project demonstrated the team’s expertise in reverse engineering, technical validation, and specialist component sourcing, while providing a commercially competitive alternative to the OEM.

Delivered in collaboration with Hayley Group’s Richard Ambrose (Sales Manager) and Ben Chapman (On-Site Lead), the project reinforced Dexis Group’s ability to respond quickly to complex engineering challenges and deliver practical, high-value solutions for critical manufacturing applications.
