When it comes to sustainability, HAYLEY DEXIS has long been committed to helping customers. To move the needle even more, they conducted an in-depth analysis of their Scope 1 and 2 carbon
emissions across the entire business, working in collaboration with Planet Mark. Planet Mark is an internationally recognised leader in net zero certification, with over twelve years of experience in helping businesses of all sizes to reduce emissions, secure net zero targets, and generate long-term business value. HAYLEY DEXIS initially undertook a partial assessment due to data constraints but has since enhanced its data collection methods for improved accuracy. The company focused on Scope 1 and 2 emissions, along with a partial assessment of Scope 3, covering the following categories: purchased goods and services (partial), fuel and energy (partial), waste, and business travel.
A Journey of Learning Progress
The process has been challenging for the SHEQ department and the wider business, requiring improvements in data accuracy and a reassessment of sustainability strategies. A year of data collection highlighted key areas for change, including refining energy use and reporting fuel consumption. Business travel emerged as a significant contributor to emissions, prompting the company to encourage smarter travel choices across its workforce.
“One of the biggest lessons from this journey is that even small changes can make a big difference,” Paige Davies, ESG Sustainability Assistant for HAYLEY DEXIS, stated. “Simple switches, like LED lighting and energy-efficient equipment, have a significant cumulative effect when applied across multiple sites. Businesses looking to start their sustainability journey don’t need to overhaul everything at once – just measuring what they can and improving from there is a decisive first step.”
Planet Mark has supported HAYLEY DEXIS throughout the journey through guidance, reports and networking opportunities, strengthening its broader ESG strategy. This collaboration also enables more significant engagement with suppliers and customers, aligning sustainability goals across the industry
Local Action, Local Impact
Sustainability efforts at HAYLEY DEXIS extend beyond global targets to focus on local impact. A key decision in this regard was the retention of the company’s new warehouse in Halesowen. While relocating elsewhere was an option, staying in the exact location reduced unnecessary travel for employees and helped to support local jobs. With multiple regional branches, HAYLEY DEXIS remains conscious of its impact on surrounding communities and is committed to making meaningful improvements at a local level. By assessing emissions branch by branch, the company identifies key areas for reduction, ensuring that sustainability efforts directly benefit local communities.
Supporting Customers with Sustainable Solutions
HAYLEY DEXIS recognises that customers need high-quality products while seeking sustainable solutions. Achieving Planet Mark Certified Business status reinforces the company’s commitment to taking carbon emissions seriously by going through third-party accreditation. As sustainability becomes a greater priority across supply chains, this accreditation provides customers with confidence that HAYLEY DEXIS is a responsible and forward-thinking partner. Beyond its operations, the company also helps customers reduce their environmental impact through various sustainable solutions, including; air leak detection surveys, pump and electric motor efficiency surveys, PPE and workwear recycling, oil filtration projects, and much more!
Small Steps, Big Impact
HAYLEY DEXIS remains committed to further progress. While the Planet Mark certification represents a significant achievement, the company views it as just the beginning. With a continued focus on sustainability, it aims to work closely with customers and communities to build a greener future – one step at a time. “It is our vision to empower our people with the skills, autonomy, and resources to make our customers’ operations leaner, more competitive, and more environmentally sustainable,” states Mark Fulwell, Group SHEQ Advisor for HAYLEY DEXIS. “By securing third-party verification through Planet Mark, HAYLEY DEXIS ensures that sustainability is not just a corporate goal but a measurable and ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting responsible business practices.”
