Air Leak Detection Survey Across three Brewery Sites Saves £156K In Annual Energy Costs – CS151

The Situation

A large brewery based in the East of England was interested in getting a better understanding of how they use compressed air, and how they could optimise this to reduce operating costs. Thanks to a long-standing relationship with HAYLEY DEXIS and its supply partners, the brewery’s local HAYLEY DEXIS branch was contacted for assistance by the customer’s Lead Engineer.

The Solution

The local HAYLEY DEXIS team diarised a suitable date for an engineer from the specialist fluid power division to attend three of the brewery sites and carryout an air leak detection survey on the pneumatic systems at each location. During the survey, all leaks were detected using cutting-edge, hand-held technology, tagged with a colour-coded label, and documented in a digital database. On request of the Lead Engineer, expected savings were calculated using both the brewery’s current pence per kilowatt hour rate and a projected rate that had been agreed beforehand.

"AN ANNUAL SAVING OF £156K WOULD BE SECURED IF A SMALL NUMBER OF MAINTENANCE TASKS WERE COMPLETED."

The Result

Across all three sites, a number of leaks were identified and thoroughly documented, with the Lead Engineer having full visibility of the findings throughout the duration of the survey and beyond. Using the projected rate of 32p/kWh to calculate the cost of the leaks, it was determined that an annual saving of £156,133.45 would be secured if a small number of maintenance tasks were completed. The recommended actions were swiftly taken by the customer to stop the leaks, and energy consumption has already seen a reduction as a result.
