THE SITUATION
A manufacturer of vital drugs had suffered a stoppage to their loader in the middle of the night. The problem was identified as a failed pneumatic cylinder which had taken the critical machine out of service. No replacements were available in the customer’s engineering stores, and the OEM had no out-of-hours service, so the on-site maintenance team decided to partially repair the cylinder as a temporary fix. Requiring a long-term solution, the customer reached-out to the local HAYLEY DEXIS team and spoke to their emergency team who helped advise on the repaired cylinder and got to work on sourcing an alternative.
THE SOLUTION
Despite the best efforts of HAYLEY DEXIS, the OEM for what was found to be a made-to-order cylinder, was not able to reduce their leadtime of 18 days. At first opportunity the next morning, the HAYLEY DEXIS team contacted Camozzi Automation and sent them a drawing of the failed cylinder. From this, Camozzi were able to build and ship a replacement cylinder the same day, after making only a few minor tweaks to its design.
THE RESULT
By 19:00 the same day that the issue was reported to HAYLEY DEXIS, the customer had a brand-new pneumatic cylinder installed and their loader was fully operational, by 21:00. Thanks to the reduced impact on
production that the Camozzi and HAYLEY DEXIS partnership enabled, a massive £4,320,000 in downtime related losses was prevented. The supply of critical drugs to the UK health sector was upheld as a result of the fast actions of both Camozzi and HAYLEY DEXIS.
