THE SITUATION
A bogie service centre was using LOCTITE® SF 7063 for cleaning bogie wheel sets prior to assembly. The customer was buying 15,000 cans of product per year at a cost of around £20,000. Due to the rate of consumption, the annual disposal costs for the 15,000 empty aerosols were running at around £6,000. The customer challenged HAYLEY DEXIS and Henkel to come up with a solution to this problem.
THE SOLUTION
Thanks to their long-established and close working relationship, the customer’s Key Account Manager from HAYLEY DEXIS | Rail and technical specialist from Henkel, quickly got to work on scoping a suitable solution to help cut both the depot’s costs and waste. The solution came in the shape of the LOCTITE® refillable spray system which consists of several reusable aerosol canisters and, crucially, a a dispensing station that also includes an air-powered pressuriser. Once the empty aerosol has been filled with LOCTITE® 7063, a lid is added and the canister is placed onto the pressuriser, which uses harmless propellant gas to enable the application of the product with the aerosol’s spray system. HAYLEY DEXIS now supply the LOCTITE® SF 7063 to this customer in 200 litre drums, when their stock of product needs replenishing.
"A £20K YEARLY COST-SAVING HAS BEEN ACHIEVED"
THE RESULT
By switching to the refillable spray system, the customer is saving around £20,000 per year, when compared to purchasing the 400ml aerosols at the rate of consumption this site was seeing. In addition, waste disposal costs have been reduced by £6,000. The reusable aerosols can be refilled up to 600 times, cutting waste and reducing the site’s associated carbon footprint. The station is located near to the point of use in the depot, making it convenient for engineers to use and improving access to a critical consumable product within the site’s operations.
