The Situation
The customer, a national aggregates company, had suffered a bearing failure within a critical application at their quarry in an isolated corner of Western Scotland. The failure occurred at the tail-end of the night shift on a Monday morning, with it being reported to the nearest HAYLEY DEXIS branch at 07:20am.
The Solution
The call was answered by the team at the Inverness branch of HAYLEY DEXIS, with the bearing at the heart of the issue being identified quickly as a 60mm Cooper® Split Bearing Unit. The branch utilised their wide-reaching stock-holding and were able to provide a direct replacement off-the-shelf. Despite the remoteness of the customers’ site, a substantial drive away from the branch, the new bearing reached the quarry by 1:00pm. This enabled the customer to get their operation back up and running quickly.
"THE QUARRY WAS OPERATIONAL AGAIN IN-TIME FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE NIGHT SHIFT."
The Result
The quarry was operational again in-time for the beginning of the night shift on the Monday evening. If it had not been for the stock and fast service of HAYLEY DEXIS Inverness, the customer would have encountered a number of serious operational problems representing a total £12.5k cost, including:
- Immobilised and non-productive machinery.
- Loss of night-coated material supply for whole shift.
- Cancellation of a complete work shift, meaning loss of work for contractors.
- Trucks and drivers sitting in-wait, resulting in a loss of productivity.
