THE SITUATION
A mechanical fitter working at a water treatment works contacted the HAYLEY DEXIS branch in Bradford, with an urgent request for a replacement roller chain sprocket. An email containing several photos of a severly worn sprocket was sent across, and the team quickly identified this as an 81-45 TL 3020. The urgency of the situation was significant, as without quick replacement, the water company would be facing a £50,000 charge for a breach of consent and a pollution fine of at least £1.5 million.
THE SOLUTION
The HAYLEY DEXIS team immediately set to work on sourcing a replacement for their customer. None were in stock at the branch, or at other local branches in the North of England. There was also a host of local businesses contacted by the team, who were unable to assist in such a short space of time. A suitable replacement was discovered as being in stock at the HAYLEY DEXIS branch in Kent, one hour after the original call was placed. A taxi service was arranged from the branch in Gillingham, Kent, to the home address of the water treatment plant’s mechanical fitter, in West Yorkshire. The sprocket was received at midnight, and was fitted at the plant by 4am the next morning.
"A MAJOR POLLUTION EVENT, AND THE ASSOCIATED PENALTY, WAS AVOIDED,"
THE RESULT
Thanks to the desire to support their customer, and the stockholding of the HAYLEY DEXIS branch network, the customer avoided a breach in consent and a penalty fine which would have been issued for a pollution event. The total cost of this would have been £1,550,000.
