The Situation
The customer operates a large order fulfilment and distribution centre in the South West of England. At the beginning of a busy day shift, the on-shift Maintenance Planner was informed that all twelve transmission belts meant to be available as consignment stock had been used without being correctly booked-out. A breakdown later that day had brought the whole operation to a standstill. A three-week lead time was quoted by the OEM, with a 48 hour service available at a huge cost.
The Solution
The Maintenance Planner contacted HAYLEY DEXIS Bristol, to see if they could help get their operations back up and running. Five replacement belts were available directly from the branch, which the customer chose to collect immediately. Within one hour, the replacement belts were back at the customer’s site, being fitted by engineers. A delivery of belts to makeup for the shortfall were ordered into branch for the next day. Within twenty four hours, the customer’s stock of belts was fully replenished.
"THE LOCAL STOCKHOLDING AVAILABLE…ENABLED THE CUSTOMER TO REINSTATE THEIR OPERATIONS."
The Result
The local stockholding available from HAYLEY DEXIS branches enabled the customer to reinstate their operations with minimal downtime suffered. Had the stock not been available, the operation would have been at a standstill for a minimum of forty-eight hours with a more realistic time-frame being a number of weeks. The cost of purchasing and shipping replacement belts from the OEM was significantly higher than that charged by HAYLEY DEXIS. The customer’s perpetual requirement for belts is now being fulfilled by Hayley Bristol, ensuring access to products when the customer needs it.
